Media Blasting

The purpose for blasting the old stain off is to expose the raw log or wood and give us the opportunity to;

  • Uncover any unknown areas of rot for repair
  • Apply Penetreat Rot Preventative which prevents further rot and decay
  • Properly prepare the wood to bond with the new water based stain

It's simple, if you think about it, a log is a tree that has been cut down and trees begin to decay as soon as they have been cut. We are trying to prevent or dramatically slow that process of decay.

We use many different types of media for the perfect solution to whatever the blasting requires.  We have the proper equipment and techniques to blast any surfaces such as;

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Concrete
  • Fire Damage
  • Automotive
  • Commercial Kitchens
  • Industrial Equipment
  • Livestock Trailers

Thermal Imaging

With the latest advancements in technology, we now have the ability to test your home for energy efficiency.  We can determine exactly where any cold air is coming in, or where hot air is going out.  This is a huge advantage in determining the proper game plan for sealing a home, and it brings those energy costs down significantly. Thermal imaging works most effectively during the colder months, because the differences in air temperature are easily apparent.  Call us to set up your personalized home evaluation today!

Staining

Stain is your first line of defense for any wood surface.  It prevents water from entering and it prolongs the life of the wood.  Sashco's Capture stain is a water-based stain that physically bonds with the wood on a cellular level, providing a physical "lock" with the cell structure to prevent peeling or flaking of the stain.  We apply the stain by airless sprayer application, to the point of running, with a vigorous back brush technique that physically "pumps" the stain into the cells of the wood.  Proper application of stain to a properly prepared wood surface is the most important part of prolonging the life of your home.  After 2 coats of Capture has been applied, we then apply 1 coat of Cascade, which is a clear  protecting layer.  Cascade does not change the color of the stain or chinking and it does not yellow or fade. Cascade is the saran wrap of your home!

Check Filling with Conceal

Logs expand and contract with the changes in the weather, and this movement causes cracks to form in the log known as "checks". On any check larger than a 1/4" we use  Conceal which is a textured, color-matched caulk.  The purpose of the Conceal is to prevent any water from running into the check and rotting the log from the inside out.  It also prevents many of the insects that try to build nests in these checks.  It is not necessary to fill checks smaller that a 1/4" as the Capture stain seals those micro-checks.  We look for checks expanding when we do maintenance follow-ups, and repair any of the checks that have grown.

Chinking

Chinking is the sealant between your logs, and it prevents water, wind, bugs and any other invasive object from entering your home. It moves and flexes with the logs as they expand and contract with the changes of the seasons.

Because of the importance of chinking to your home, we evaluate the condition of the chinking and then follow these steps;

  • Tear out any failed chinking
  • Media blast
  • Stain and clear coat
  • Re-chink or "skim" coat entire home

Because of the process necessary to properly apply the stain, it is impossible not to stain the chinking.  We have found that the only cost effective way to bring the old chinking back to its original color and performance is to "skim" coat a fresh layer of chinking. This assures that all the chink joints are bonding properly with the logs and that your house is properly sealed.  This is the final step for your home.
